Bigby announced his retirement on May 6 as head coach at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College of Miami. Today, he's been head coach at Baxter Springs High School for nearly two weeks. "Well, I did want to get back into coaching (after securing retirement in Oklahoma)," Bigby said on Saturday. "There were two or three options. "I'm very happy," Bigby said. "It was a good move for our family. Our family and church are huge. "Hey, I can drive my motorcycle to work," Bigby said with a laugh. "It's only 14-15 miles from home. "I believe the experience will be a lot of fun," Bigby said. "Football is football. It's still blocking and tackling. We're looking forward to it." Bigby served NEO a total of 10 years. He coached at the high school level the previous 19 years. "I've coached everything from Class A to Class 6A in Oklahoma high schools," Bigby said. Bigby, who joined the Golden Norsemen after a stint at Owasso High School, has his Baxter Springs staff set. "We're bringing Mitchell from NEO, where he worked with the receivers," Donnie Bigby said. "I'll coordinate the offense and also work with the offensive line and linebackers," Donnie Bigby said. "I believe we'll have co-defensive coordinators. Two guys will make the calls. I'm not sure who, however. "It's still a learning curve for all of us," Bigby said with a laugh. "Baxter Springs has some good looking kids," Bigby said.
