Flagstaff Medical Center nurse Donna Price, R.N., C.N.M., has been named "Nurse of the Year" by the March of Dimes in the category of Advancing the Profession.Nurses from across Arizona were honored at last month's third annual March of Dimes Arizona Nurses of the Year Awards Gala presented by Health Net.Price was nominated by her peers because she fosters ideas, arouses creativity and challenges the abilities of others.She has a passion for nursing.She listens, coaches and advocates that nurses work within their scope of practice and become a voice for the nursing profession.Additionally, she teaches nursing students at Northern Arizona University. Price has worked at FMC since 1984 in Obstetrics and Labor and Delivery as a registered nurse, certified nurse midwife, charge nurse and clinical coordinator.She earned her bachelors degree in nursing in 1983 from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and a degree in midwifery from the University of Philadelphia in 1999.Currently, Price is completing her masters degree while teaching at Northern Arizona University.

Cindy Beckett, Ph.D., R.N.C., L.C.C.E.; and Donna Price, R.N., B.S.N., C.N.M, recently were appointed members of the governor's Task Force on the Prevention of Prenatal Exposure to Alcohol and Other Drugs.Beckett and Price were selected for membership on the task force because of their extensive background and experience.As members, Beckett and Price will serve as educators to healthcare providers on prenatal substance abuse prevention. Price joined FMC in 1984 from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and was initially hired as a nurse in Labor and Delivery.In 1989, she was promoted to clinical coordinator of Labor and Delivery, and in that same year helped start FMC's To Lose a Child (TLC) program.The TLC program provides emotional support for women who have suffered a miscarriage or who have had a stillborn baby.Currently, Price is a nurse in the OB unit and is teaching full-time as a clinical instructor at NAU while working toward her masters degree in nurse midwifery through Philadelphia University.
