HOUGHTON - The Houghton County Board of Commissioners
took the middle road selecting Don Simila
to fill one of two empty seats on the board.The board of commissioners, whose numbers were reduced to three due to two empty seats, voted unanimously Tuesday to add Simila, director of business development for Marquette General Hospital, to serve the rest of Jim Kirkish's term.
will represent District 4, covering the city of Houghton, through the end of the year.The board needed to appoint an interim commissioner within 30 days or hold a special election.Simila

over two men running for the seat in the general election Nov. 5 - Democrat Scott Ala and Republican Francis "Frank" Lide.Ala and Lide are currently running unopposed for their party nominations during the Aug. 6 primary election.
