A couple of weeks ago, I attended a forum led by Cedarville's own Associate Professor of English, Dr. Donald Deardorff.His book, The Football Narrative and American Masculinity: Negotiating Ironic Resistance, discusses the image-seeking patterns of males in today's society-an analysis which can be cross-applied to the female gender.

According to Deardorff, men often find themselves emulating a popular symbol or template of "manhood" in order to regain power in their lives, pursuing images such as the football player, the warrior, or the gentleman.
