Truell represents the county on the Piedmont Triad Regional Council of Governments, Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation, Davidson County Transportation Board and Davidson County Health Board. A longtime Thomasville police officer, he retired in 1994 as police chief and was elected as a city council member in 1995 and mayor in 1997.
