Dr. Donald Stafford

Dr. Donald Stafford Dr. Donald Stafford has been associated with the musical life of Cherokee County for more than three decades. He completed a Bachelor of Church Music degree at Shorter College and a Masters in Music from the University of Michigan, majoring in both music history and choral conducting. He went on to finish a Doctor of Philosophy degree in music at Florida State University. Dr. Stafford sang under the baton of Robert Shaw for a number of years, performing in Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and many major halls throughout Europe.
Dr. Stafford directed the first performance of the Cherokee Community Chorale in December of 1988. He also directed the Chorale's debut performances at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, N.C. and Williamsburg, Virginia.

Dr. Stafford, one of the founding conductors, is Director for Choral Activites at North Hall High School in Gainesville, Ga. and is Director of Music for the First United Methodist Church of Canton.

Garland Pinholster , R-Ball Ground , and Don Stafford , co-conductor of the Cherokee Community Chorale and director_of_music for Canton First United Methodist Church , were presented with Lamar Haley Community Service Awards.

The award for Stafford was presented by Rotarian Jim Hamilton of Canton , who said , as a chorale member he knew firsthand of the conductor's ability to lead the community.
Stafford , who graduated from Shorter College , the University of Michigan and Florida State University , served for many years as the choral director at Cherokee High School and as director_of_music First Baptist Canton.
He created the music programs at Cherokee County's elementary schools and led a children's choir , the Music Factory , for a decade.
Stafford , who serves as director_of_music at North Hall High School in Gainesville and at Canton First United Methodist Church , co-created the Cherokee Community Chorale.
Today he serves as the chorale's co-conductor and Hamilton cites him as a main reason for the group's success.
It's a first-rate contribution to the community and to the life of this county , Hamilton said of Stafford's efforts.
Stafford , who attended the program with his wife , Sharon , said he has_been blessed in his career and in his community.
To fulfill the dreams of one's youth is probably as good as it gets , said Stafford , who has two daughters.I don't think when I came to Canton 30 years ago , I knew I would still be in this community today.I am blessed..
