Don Reilly will be sadly missed

Don Reilly will be sadly missed
It was with great sadness and regret that OPSBA learned of the sudden death of our friend and respected colleague Don Reilly on November 1.Don was currently serving as 2nd Vice President of OPSBA.His many years of involvement in OPSBA also included serving as Vice President of the Central West Region and he made invaluable contributions on many OPSBA Committees and Work Teams.
Don was educated in the public school system of Welland and earned degrees from Carleton University and the University of Toronto. He devoted his entire career to education, serving first as teacher and principal in Crowland, Carleton Place, Thorold and Welland and then as Superintendent of Schools. For many years Don was Superintendent of Special Education for the Niagara South Board of Education.Since his formal retirement in 1989, Don taught in the Faculties of Education at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York and at Brock University. He was also just completing his fifth term as Trustee in the District School Board of Niagara and was acclaimed for a further term.He served for the past two terms as Chairman of the Board.Throughout his life, Don was a staunch advocate for special education and for exceptional pupils. As Superintendent of Special Education, Don was a pioneer in the integration into regular classrooms of those with disabilities.
Don's knowledge, compassion, and sense of humour will be deeply missed by all his friends and colleagues and he will always be remembered.
