Ideation International helped to organize a meeting between Hitachi representatives Toshihiro Hayashi, Senior Manager, and Setsuo Arita, Senior Researcher, and Don Masingale, program manager for Boeing Commercial Airplane Co. in Wichita, KS last November to discuss TRIZ and other engineering methodologies, such as Taguchi, QFD, and the Theory of Constraints (TOC).

Masingale, a TRIZ specialist, was recommended as a knowledgeable information resource because he has personally conducted extensive research on the methodology and TRIZ-based software products.
During the meeting with Masingale, Hayashi and Arita shared several presentations outlining the wide scope of their effort to implement TRIZ.
According to Masingale, the majority of individuals he had contacted who had tested both the IWB and TechOptimizer held that the IWB was their product of choice, citing its user friendliness as the primary factor.

Don Masingale, retired senior engineer at Boeing Corporation, will tell you that TRIZ holds the answer to just about any engineering problem you can imagine.

Quoted in PlaneTalk, Boeing's internal newsletter, he said, "When you see something this good, you just can't walk away from it.
Although the attendees at one of Masingale's internal training classes didn't know it at the time, the solution they developed under the guidance of TRIZ expert Zinovy Royzen would result in US$1.5 billion worth of customer orders.
The Tanker Transport program at Boeing presented what Higgs and Masingale refer to as a "classic engineering conflict.

Don Masingale - Technical Lead - New Product Engineering, Eaton Corporation Treasurer:

Don MasingaleDon Masingale - Chief Consultant for Team TRIZ & Associates Inc. based in Spring-Houston Texas
In 2004 Don took early retirement from The Boeing Company as a Program Manager and Senior Research Engineer-Scientist in Advanced Engineering Research after twenty-two years of combined time with North American Aviation (Rockwell). For much of his career prior to Boeing, Don was, and again is, an Industry Problem Solving Consultant in Petroleum, Construction, Computer Systems, Aerospace, Design & Manufacturing for many companies as well as the US Military, Canadian Military, and other government agencies and Industries. This consulting resulted in numerous end products.
Don fostered innovation within the Boeing Company while most other management officials within the company were just talking about it or wishing for it.He accomplished this fostering by authoring a monthly "Boeing Innovators" newsletter that was sent to over 50,000 technical and management people within Boeing and several thousand people outside of Boeing.
He also started an internal "Boeings Innovators" web site to reinforce and support his newsletters, announcing TRIZ events, short articles from TRIZ trained Boeing employees and their problem solving projects, offering TRIZ problem solving internal consulting and training to all Boeing Divisions with a diversity of products.Between the newsletter and website, he provided a solid means to convey to the Boeing technical and management community that this wasn't just talk, but the "action" that was needed if Boeing's technical community was to be truly innovative.
As Boeing acquired North American Aviation (Rockwell) and McDonnell Douglas, Don saw the opportunity to promote TRIZ and Innovation within those organizations and teamed with those who already had interest or was interested in learning more.
Don has supported TRIZ and Innovation by publishing papers, becoming one of the first certified TRIZ Specialists in the US, working directly with the TRIZ based software companies and trainers to improve their programs and training, chairing and co-chairing TRIZ conferences (London), workshops and training, and by being a part of the very first TRIZ conference (and continuing his involvement since, when possible). He is pleased to see that so many others have taken the ball to help westernize TRIZ as a truly innovative realization for everyone willing to make the effort to learn and apply it.
Don has owned and operated several successful businesses, held many positions in companies from engineer to President, and has helped almost every major aerospace program since 1963 become a reality; Saturn Apollo, 747, Space Shuttle, B1, International Space Station, 787, etc., He is an avid ocean sailor, pilot, diver, US Navy Veteran, TRIZ coach to university senior engineering on their senior projects, mentor to PhD candidates using Innovation as their theme, author of many papers and speaker-presenter to numerous technical forums and conventions, inventor, and has a true desire to help others become more innovative.
