"I am psyched to get this launched today; Sunset Music Publishing can show how it is one of the integral parts of us building one the most innovative and progressive music companies in the world and besides that recognition for the company, this is just another way for us to showcase our catalog that is available for the production music industry today," says head of Sunset, Don Lichterman. He goes onto say that "doing things the automated way online continues to grow how businesses gets done in general, and in this case, music supervisors, can now review and retrieve our music at any time. Sunset Music has more than 150 entries on the nomination ballot for the 54th Grammy Awards this year and (Don) Lichterman says that from what he does see growing in this part of the industry is that "more companies are sprouting up with a system like I have set up at Sunset. Lichterman describes "Universal's (Universal Music Publishing) amazing system which after I saw the launch of it last month, and I merely expanded on their concept of dealing online, however at Sunset, you can check right out using our own e-commerce."
Lichterman and Sunset also have one of the only A&R Submittal tools in place, and the company now does it royalty payments and statements online and paperless.

Don Lichterman's Three Weeks In June is set to hit every store this month, and will be available at any place that sells paperback books, eBooks and audio books!
Traveling in America has never been the same, the Don Lichterman book, Three Weeks In June, is not just a book about travelling all over the United States. (Don) Lichterman's route in America, explores his visit to an Indian Reservation, to the largest music festival, on a rock bands final tour, while travelling all over the United States. The adventure is helped along by him losing his cell phone, his wallet, all of his money, and he broke his pda while managing to somehow receive cash from a Western Union, get his tickets replaced for any shows, rented a car and got on an airplane without any identification. "This is not just a story about what I did for that three weeks span of time," the author, Don Lichterman says about his newly published book, "this is a very political book."
The book, Three Weeks In June also discusses the controversy with the War on Drugs, the private jails and private prisons all over America while also discussing how corrupt the bank system is today, and how corporations should be responsible for their actions. "I touch into everything and I give solutions along with my pints, including how to gain jobs with ease today, let alone how gain huge revenues with those jobs, how to gain money in general with ease today, how to stop the ridiculous spending we do as a nation. "I also go off about how corrupt the criminal justice system is today and has been for decades," says (Don) Lichterman.
Don Lichterman is the founder, current chairman and head of the Sunset Entertainment Companies. Since starting in the entertainment industry he has garnered more than eleven (11) Gold, Platinum and Multi Platinum Records Awards issued to him by the Recording Association of America (R.I.A.A.), four (4) Gold, Platinum and Multi Platinum A.R.I.A. (Australian Recording Industry Association), and has worked three of the largest and most successful entertainment companies in the world. Lichterman has been a participant at the Grammys on The Hill Advocacy Day, on behalf of the Recording Academy, at the Senate Building in Washington DC for last two years in a row in 2010 and 2011. He was also presented all around achievement award for most successful year ever at major record company.
(Don) Lichterman also shows his colors by making no bones about growing up on Grateful Dead tours confirming that he has seen exactly 381 shows before Jerry Garcia died in 1995. He then says, "I think I somehow managed to have accumulated to see over 250 Phish shows since I first met the two of them at that Widespread Panic show at the Roxy in Hollywood" and "since I was first taken to see that band at their own show in 1994."

"This is an important time to be a part of the development of Nigerian world music," says Don Lichterman, the head of Tropical Records. And he says that "No-Limitt is the perfect Nigerian music artist and band leader to get his message to the rest of the world. (Don) Lichterman also says that "the album is a vital work of contemporary World Music," or what is described as an "Afrolife Master" sound or "Afrobeat."
...
Also, the new international recording deal with No-Limitt and Tropical / Sunset will have an aggregate customer/viewer base that is worldwide and the label head, Don Lichterman says that "having the ability to sign bands from anywhere in the world, and having the opportunity to then reach out to an international consumer fan base, is exciting for me as an A&R person in this industry today. (Don) Lichterman then says, "let alone making sales internationally is also what is most gratifying to me today because then, that then allows me to find new music while I gain knowledge of what consumers want from every country around the world," and Lichterman explains that he is also "working on hiring a great new team of people that share the same vision for my short and long term plans at the company."

"Respect is another important artist for reggae music," says Don Lichterman, the head of Tropical Records, "and for the Tropical Record label (www.Tropical-Records.com).
...
He (Don Lichterman) then says, "let alone us signing what I consider to be international star, like Pascal G, the label has come full circle since I started it two years ago in August, in the most perfect way."
(Don) Lichterman started Tropical Records while attending Sum fest in the summer of 2007 in Montego Bay, Jamaica in the West Indies. Since then, the label (Tropical Records) has been providing reggae music listeners with not only what is considered to be traditional roots reggae style of music, Tropical Records has also released specific dancehall styled reggae music artists since its inception two and a half years ago from this month. Since the start of his career, Respect has returned stronger than ever with this 'Take A Stand' CD and the "High Miles Punny" and "Silent Assassin" songs are already getting airplay in constant rotations at world music radio stations and on online radio stations, all over the world. His first single, "High Miles Punny" has really started to gain the attention of retailers, distributors (Sunset/Island Def Jam Digital) during the set up time this month, and that should lead to the sales of the new ' Take A Stand' CD that will be in stores on February 22 this month.
"Dancehall (reggae) styled artists and their songs are not only stronger than ever in today's marketplace," says (Don) Lichterman about the reggae artist, Respect, "but honestly, I also love that style of music myself because its fun quite frankly. The Tropical Record label seems to be intertwining what can be considered roots reggae music artists, along with dancehall reggae music artists that have mixed or added fusions bringing in other styles of music, to reggae songs. "I like taking a certain basis from an A&R and producer point of view when signing artists and putting together their albums," (Don) Lichterman continues to day say about his world music record label (Tropical Records), "and then what I always try to do is to expand on that basis if you will, with artists that can deliver colorful melodies and more avenues in songs than the verse, verse, chorus basic way people write songs."
...
Respect was signed this month by Don Lichterman who heard the songs from the Take A Stand CD earlier this year, says that he "wanted to bring him (Respect) to the Tropical label" and that he "wants to get the CD out this year. The legendary reggae artist was quickly sought after by the Indy record label Tropical Records before signing the artist to the multi album recording deal.
"Respect is the perfect addition to the Tropical label," says Don Lichterman, the head of Tropical Records, and "we cannot wait to start working his music this month.

(Don) Lichterman goes on to say that "aside from movies that have come out in the last few years, music has been the ultimate way to bring awareness to that so called, "War On Drugs."" No matter if the songs on this compilation soundtrack CD reveal anything at all to the mainstream marketplace, the music from the film (American Drug War: The Last White Hope) is set out to help portray the misconception(s) surrounding the "so called, drug war" along with highlighting the corrupt nature of the "privatization of prisons in America," (Don) Lichterman wants to no doubt continue to speak out as much as possible about one of the main issues he has backed in the last ten years. (Don) Lichterman makes no bones about his stance against the privatizations of prisons by saying, "The Geo Group and many private prisons trade stock on wall street based on how many people are in its facility (meaning in its prison(s)).

"And, therefore" Lichterman says, "I think what's happened is that there are not enough rapists and murderers in the U.S., hence them needing to fill those spaces and empty rooms in the prison system, which obviously trickles down to recreational and even, medicinal drug users today."
...
Overall, marijuana users also generally do not form that many fringe and obstinate movements around the issue, despite what mainstream media outlets report about it, "one person can't make an entire movement by themselves" (Don) Lichterman states, "I realize that it takes more than one person to build a movement and build something bigger than one self, which is why I am grateful to the participants on the soundtrack, and I am especially grateful to Kevin (Booth) for allowing me to use my resources to do my part to spread the word."
...
The album appropriately starts off with a song by the newest Sunset Urban recording artist, Phillip Morris rapping his; "A Dysfunctional Family Affair" which (Don) Lichterman says "is a song that tells this entire story. The CD continues with other recognizable tracks from the film like Da-Watchman's distinctive, "V-Town Krack Haus" and the "Intro Secret Sauce" track by Beat Banga. If the statement made by (Don) Lichterman, (Kevin) Booth and Sunset Records on this soundtrack CD release does not say enough, the documentary film is also a "a must see" says (Don) Lichterman, "this (American Drug War: The Last White Hope) documentary film, and the "The Corporation" are two of the most important documentary films released over the last decade and honestly, everyone needs to see them both in their life.
...
"Overall though," says (Don) Lichterman, "no one needs to watch the film or listen to the CD itself in order to have a strong liberal viewpoint about the legalization of marijuana today and how private prisons work to create a criminal justice system that aims to get people in their facilities, let alone works to keep people in that system, in a very pro active way."
...
The songs on the CD definitely go across many formats, They were all chosen for their lasting impacting message and even though some of the songs are not necessarily tied to the drug theme or about using marijuana, Don Lichterman (head of Sunset Records) says to "listen to songs like "A Dysfunctional Family Affair" by the Chicago native, Phillip Morris, "which I put first on the album for the sole reason that he raps about criminal justice system in not only a creative way, he also sends his message in a concise way.
...
But then (Don) Lichterman says, "most of all, these are not songs about smoking pot and partying Charlie Sheen style, this is all aimed to send out what is a very important message for people to know about how our criminal justice system works today.
...
"All of the songs by the band (Los Marijuanos) send a huge and direct statement addressing prohibition today," says label head, Don Lichterman.
...
Though the group first gained international attention, critical acclaim while turning heads with its overall message and with its brand name (Los "Marijuanos"); the irony is that it has a radio friendly song as the first single on this full length CD ("Summertime". Los Marijuanos has also put out other albums since the early 00's, and (Don) Lichterman with his label now has a band that is no doubt considered to be an infectious amalgam of funk, reggae, dancehall, hip-hop, and rock fused material has resulted in a progressive sound that is perfect for what is happening socially around the world.
...
"The soundtrack is not only a favorite of mine," says Don Lichterman, the head of Sunset Records, "it also tells a story just like the film would tell its story. (Don) Lichterman goes on to say "The songs on the soundtrack are all dramatic in their own way," and "the CD is not only fun, I also want people to be able to leave the CD on at parties without having to change it.

"We have been wanting to be a part of Sunset Records since the main label was announced starting up at this time last year, and I have been impressed with the new music signed by Don Lichterman.I am excited and humbled to be a part of this label group.I'm really impressed how the label works with new artists."
Don Lichterman, the main A&R person at Sunset and the chief executive and founder of the Sunset Label Group, adds, "It only took a few seconds for me to realize we had something special with these guys. This band is the quintessential pop act, and has a gifted singer that can write amazing songs which will instantly win over huge audiences at radio and when they play live shows."Continues Lichterman, "Danny went back to the studio finished the mixes and then he mastered The New Surreal CD and we expect to do very well with this music for the last half of this year; this band gives the label what we have been trying to find for a couple years.
...
Don Lichterman then comments, "The New Surreal has already won me over and we have already allowed some regions of the world to stream their new music. The response has overwhelming enough for me to add this to an end of the summer street date. They are a group of young, talented singer songwriters with amazing vocals and a sound that currently has wide appeal and great accessibility on every song on the CD.We're over the top thrilled to have them be a part of the Sunset future and to have joined our artist roster this week."
The New Surreal are now all three based in New York City and will work closely with Don Lichterman at the Sunset Records label with artist development efforts for the band.
...
"I am psyched to have something this easy to work for the rest of the year," Lichterman says about the songs on the debut CD.
...
"This event is very special for me because it takes the live downloads concept to another level," says Don Lichterman, the head of Sunset Records and Sunset Live Entertainment."First off, I grew up on live music," Lichterman continues, "whether it was recording live shows off FM radio and seeing music live, that is how I started to love music as a kid."Lichterman also says that adding live simulcast to the Sunset Live download company adds value to live downloads in the same way DVDs are added value for consumers compared to CDs."It's that same mentality I have today with David Gans and CD Pulse that I had with DVDs when I started Sunset."He says, "You cannot sell a CD for more than ten dollars at retail today where as a DVD can sell for fifteen, twenty or twenty five bucks" and "it basically costs the same to manufacturer lines of DVDs as it does to make CDs."
It is that added value that attracted Lichterman to his latest deal with his Sunset Live Entertainment Company and CD Pulse.
...
"It's a brilliant concept for both Quinn and for Starbucks" says Don Lichterman, the head of Sunset Jazz and Sunset Records."And, he (Dirk Quinn) gets to work out his material for the summer," Lichterman continues to say about the bookings throughout the Philadelphia area.
...
Lichterman says that "I think we are playing every Starbucks in that market this month" says Lichterman, and "what is even more amazing is that Dirk has late night shows to play every one those nights."
...
"Whether you get to see (Dirk) him at these festivals this summer or at the Starbucks in Philly, now is the time to see him," says Don Lichterman, the head of Sunset Jazz / Sunset Records.
...
"I'm Your Puppet 2008" is another example of this evolving artist and Don Lichterman, the head of Sunset Urban and Sunset Records celebrates the CD in a jovial tone saying that "we have a very well orchestrated, colorful and melodic CD to release to radio, press and retail" this summer. What's on the CD is that melodic blend of colorful music production, excellent harmonies coupled with a gritty vocal expressing his unwavering and accessible stories about life.
...
Don Lichterman has opened up ways for Blackwell to be able to deliver some of the most charming and opaque hiphop beats along with great harmonies that will most definitely be heard all over top urban radio stations.
...
"What it comes down to today in music is the substance of an entire album," says (Don) Lichterman, "Heartbreak is a one of those albums you will keep on your iPod forever if you love this style of music" "A lot of the newer urban groups rap about addressing many great issues in life while still making accessible music to groove too," Lichterman continues to say after being asked about the landscape of music today."I just want something not only at a top level and with color; I also look to see what is off the normal beaten track no matter what genre of music we work at Sunset."
Blackwell quotes that he is "always working on music all of the time and I am always down for adding my vocals and my rhymes with anyone of these artists that are on this CD."
...
"Dirk wanted his next CD to be produced at a high level and he wants this CD to be more than just something for his fans to leave with at his shows," says Don Lichterman, the head of the Sunset Records group of Distributed Labels.
...
Lichterman goes on to say that "Quinn began heavily turning his musical direction to a more free form and improvisational sound" and "his guitar wizardry is the focal point of his live shows."
...
Lichterman says that is what "I look for in developing music - it can be a 98 piece orchestra or one person with an acoustic guitar -- when it works, it is easy to see which is the case with these guys live."Lichterman ends the interview by saying that "this CD by Dirk is amazing for the label and I have it playing in my car all the time."

UCW Entertainment Newswire - Entertainment News From Around the Globe - Sekshun 8 Sets Up the Black Wing Butterfly CD to be Released to Stores Worldwide
newsroom.ucwe.com, 8 June 2009 [cached]
Don Lichterman, the head of Sunset Records says that he believes "the production, songwriting and live shows are what define the band.
...
The band's sophomore CD and the first with Lichterman's (Don) Sunset Records, Black Wing Butterfly has themes of isolation, hope, optimism and mysticism amidst the solidity of the bands playing and within the music. Sekshun 8 appears to be tenacious with some of the strongest vocals while offering occasional glimpses into the psyche of how the band works their music. Black Wing Butterfly explores many topics. "The CD is as real as it gets," says Lichterman, and "that is what rock music is all about."
...
Lichterman says that the label is not "reinventing the wheel" so to speak, "it will not take much for radio station PD's, music directors and disc jockey's to hear that with the initial single, "Black Winged Butterfly" Sekshun 8 has a great song for major radio. Man Of Sorrow also features the backing vocals of Tara, (a friend of the band), the 10 rock songs that make up the CD is a must for every hard rock fan.
With Black Wing Butterfly, Sekshun 8 could begin its peak and outwardly without contemporary help to date, Sunset is poised to work this band in a very big way. Though the members are a group of modest people with honest devotion to their music, the sound is over the top confident that will rock your world and as Lichterman says in the end, "They are powerful hard-rock band that takes pride in this CD."
