Q & A with Dominique Pierre-Louis, Haiti Liaison, Give-A-Ball Foundation

...
Dominique Pierre-Louis is the Haiti Liaison of Give-A-Ball Foundation, Inc. Born and Raised in Brooklyn, she is proud of her Haitian American roots, as she is the daughter Haitian born-parents. Her mother, a registered nurse for 25 years and her father a car salesman for 15 years, both came to live in NY and to seek a better life. Her maternal grandparents became successful entrepreneurs her grandmother a storefront merchant and her grandfather a thriving exporter of goods until the Haitian embargo during the Duvalier era. From these humble beginnings, Dominique learned the importance of hard work and compassion. After graduating from Bishop Kearney High School in Brooklyn, New York, Dominique received a Bachelor of Science in Finance and International Business in 2009 at Penn State. During that same year she started her career at JPMorgan where she currently works as an Operations Analyst in Global Emerging Markets. Through it all, Dominique has joined many professional and philanthropic organizations, such as Black Organization for Leadership Development (B.O.L.D) and Haitian Round Table where she currently works on a number of Haitian Diaspora and economic development based initiatives.
Her life-changing trip to Haiti began in October 2012, which was the first since the devastating earthquake in 2010. Having seen first hand the riots surrounding the ousting of then President Aristide in 2004 to the cholera outbreak she knew she needed to do more. During her stay there she met with some children from Notre Dame de Refuge elementary school. The visit formed a close bond with the children who did not have much to play with during recess or after school. The life of the children there mostly consisted of family and educational obligations. Since this visit she became more interested in the causes effecting children. So in February 2013 after meeting the founder Tosin Fawibe, Pierre-Louis joined forces with Give-A-Ball Foundation Team, where she has became the Haitian Liaison in hope to bring the joy of soccer to her country.

"By enabling kids to play soccer we are also fostering core values such as health, education and teamwork," said Dominique Pierre-Louis, Haiti Liaison of Give-A-Ball Foundation, who returned to her parents' native country in the wake of the 2010 earthquake. "During that visit, I formed close bonds with many children, many of which wanted to play and enjoy sports, but just didn't have access to any," noted Pierre-Louis.

Pierre-Louis will be joined by three Give-A-Ball Foundation team members, including Tosin Fawibe, Founder and President. After realizing the positive impact sports had in his adolescent years, Fawibe established the organization to give the gift of soccer to children in Nigeria.
