October's Mom-a-licious Mom of the Month, Dolores Hickman
, was there which was fantastic!
As I was speaking to Dolores
, the overwhelming thing that struck me was her
grateful and warm approach to life.
She's recently been promoted to store manager of the Macy's in Chula Vista, (a $36 Million store, Hello!) a company she's worked with for 21 years!
very busy, but isn't that redundant to say about a single working Mom?
What's truly lovely about Dolores
appreciation for what she
has a boss who has grown children and understands the importance of family.
A rare thing in a corporate environment!
Her daughter, Cameron, is smart, funny and has a depth of soul that even astonishes Dolores
And I think most parents understand Dolores

Along with her
team from Macy's
time by working with an organization called La Cuna ("The Cradle" in Spanish) which helps place Latino children in appropriate foster homes; and, they also work with the San Diego food bank.
On her own, she has volunteered her time as a part of the gala committee for the San Diego Natural History Museum and she also volunteers at St. Vincent DePaul, an organization that helps get homeless people back on their feet.
friend is very proud to have a two-year-old son who has eaten butternut squash for the first time!!
also said that as a little girl she
remembers Brussels sprouts tasting like tin cans, but the other night, after using Domenica's recipe, her
8-year-old daughter actually said, "May I have more Brussels sprouts, please?"
I think Dolores
really embodies the Mom-a-licious Manifesto # 14 - which is just one of the reasons we're celebrating her
Dolores and Cameron Fireplace
#14: Live with gratitude.
Whether it is taking time when you wake up, before you eat or at the end of the day, take note of your blessings and give thanks!!
Thank you Dolores
for being an inspiration, a good example, and so very, very Mom-a-licious!!
