The manufacturer’s records confirmed that the computers were purchased with private funds by Dr. Divine Pryor and Ms. Kate Kjung Ji Rhee prior to either of them working at Medgar Evers College.

“We always knew the computers were owned by us and were confident that the law would ultimately be on our side,” said Dr. Pryor, Executive Director for the Center. “This is another step towards justice for us against a Medgar Evers College administration with an utter contempt for civility and law.”

The Center filed suit against Medgar Evers College and CUNY on December 30, 2010 alleging multiple civil rights violations – theft of personal and intellectual property and invasions of privacy – performed by the college and university administrators.

However, President Jackson retired shortly after the May 2009 Executive Committee vote and the new administration headed by President William Pollard refused to forward the recommendation of the Executive Committee to CUNY.

The lawsuit also is a result of a December 17 incident in which CUNY central administration officials and MEC officials ordered a late night raid of the Center's offices, seizing computers personally owned by Dr. Pryor and Ms. Rhee.

The seizure of the computers and eviction are the latest incidents in a string of attacks by the Medgar Evers College administration against the Center.
