Dirk McMahonSenior Vice President, Customer Service Dirk McMahon was appointed senior vice president- customer service in August 2001.Most recently he was Senior Vice President, Ground Operations.He
reports to Richard Anderson, CEO. McMahon joined Northwest in 1985 and has held positions in ground operations, pricing, finance, cargo and line maintenance.
Under McMahon's leadership, Northwest's Department of Transportation (DOT) performance statistics have steadily improved including the areas of ontime, schedule completion factor, luggage handling and customer complaints. McMahon
has been involved with many strategic projects at NWA
including developing a series of technology-driven "line busting" initiatives such as Internet check-in, self-service check-in centers in airports and portable airport agent work stations.McMahon
also served on the team that wrote the Detroit Midfield terminal justification, as well as being instrumental in developing the expansion plans for Northwest's operations in Minneapolis/St.Paul and Memphis.
While in Maintenance, McMahon's
most significant contribution was prioritizing the reliability initiatives.He
also expanded maintenance infrastructure by acquiring the CMH hangar and Detroit DC-10 hangar.Beyond his
infrastructure work McMahon can be characterized as a hands on executive.This was evidenced by his
holding 40 station visits in his
first year on the job in Ground Operations.
is very involved with our alliance partner KLM in managing joint venture activities.He chairs the NW/KLM Operations Working Group. Prior to joining Northwest, McMahon gained experience in financial planning.He
holds an MBA in finance from the University of Notre Dame
and resides in the Twin Cities with his
wife and three children.He is very active in the community coaching youth sports such as soccer, basketball and baseball as well as serving on the Minnesota Zoo Board.
