With Dipti Mathur
This lecture will provide a broad survey of the contemporary Indian art landscape and will discuss the major artists, their influences and inspirations, and include images of some of the important artworks by contemporary Indian artists.The recent evolution of this dynamic market and its future potential will also be discussed.Dipti Mathur is a molecular biologist and a collector of contemporary Indian art.She has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.Dipti has served on the Board of Trustees of the Seattle Art Museum and the Seattle Asian Art Museum.She currently serves on the Advisory Council of the Digital Equalizer program of the American India Foundation, on the Board of Trustees of the Montalvo arts Center, and is on the Advisory Board of the Asia Society of Northern California.
For the past eight years, Dipti
has collected modern and contemporary Indian art, with focus on the latter.Her
ongoing interests lie in working with groups in India on the development of sustainable environmental policies, bridging the digital divide, and the preservation of eroding visual art traditions.She
also works with organizations in the US on promoting a broader cross-cultural understanding of contemporary Indian art.
