Lieutenant Colonel Dik A. Daso, USAF (Ret.)

Dik Daso retired from USAF service in 2001 as a lieutenant colonel. During his Air Force career he logged more than 2,700 flying hours as a pilot in T-38, RF-4C, and F-15A aircraft. He taught history at the USAF Academy and served as Chief of Air Force Doctrine on the Air Staff. Daso graduated from the USAF Academy in 1981 and received his master's and doctorate degrees from the University of South Carolina. He is currently the Curator of Modern Military Aircraft at the Smithsonian Institution, National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. where he was co-curator for The Price of Freedom: Americans at War, a permanent exhibition at the National Museum of American History. He is the author of Doolittle: Aerospace Visionary, Hap Arnold and the Evolution of American Airpower, Architects of American Air Supremacy, and chapters and articles in other books and journals.
