The QTI Group's principal researcher is Dieter Blum, whose primary research efforts concentrate on electrodynamics. In the early 1980's, he pioneered Automatic Depth control for pneumatic seeders, Automatic Height control for combines, and Automatic Draft control for tractors (Versatile, Steiger, John Deere) and then went on to create a Patternless Lens Edging system for the eyeglass industry (WECO, Coburn Optical, Nikon.) During the latter half of the 1980's he created novel speech compression and multiplexing techniques for the telecom sector (SaskTel, Bell South) and invented a novel TV commercial substitution and elimination system.

Apart from his work concerning electrodynamics and electromagnetic power converter topologies, Mr. Blum has a long history of research and development work involving analog and digital signal processing, high-resolution imaging, real-time video processing and radio frequency packet data transmission.A recent invention of his (1998), a novel PSTN-based Video-On-Demand (VOD) content compression/transmission system for hotels and large apartment buildings allows for delivery of VOD services via a low-cost settop.This particular invention was preceded (1994-1996) by his development of a CATV-based digital VOD system which was sold to a US consortium which commercialized the system in conjunction with the David Sarnoff Research Center (formerly RCA Laboratories and now a subsidiary of SRI International.)
Mr. Blum's creation of several wireless media access controllers, radio frequency modems and terminal node controllers (in use by U.S. law enforcement agencies), as well as a novel NDT inspection system to curb down-time in bulk material transport systems, is indicative of the broad width of Mr. Blum's imagination.The latter, a magnetostatic non-destructive testing (NDT) system providing virtual three-dimensional magnetic imaging to detect damage in high-tension steel cord reinforced conveyor belts, is now in use worldwide.It's capabilities and direct impact on mining operations led to Blum's published paper (1996.)
Over the past fourteen years, personal interest has led Mr. Blum to study many of the classic 19th and 20th century writings and experiments concerning electrodynamics and electromagnetic field interactions (particularly those within electromechanical power converters.) As a result of these studies, Mr. Blum's has also investigated high-flux density electrodynamic impulse generation and detection, electroluminescent phenomena, ionization mechanisms and many alternative energy conversion methods.

More recently, his published research concerning " Lowering the Work Function of a Photoemissive Electrode via Magnetostatic Bias" was cited in US Patent 6,891,174 to Axcelis Technologies, Inc., and he also successfully demonstrated (Nov/2007) a proof-of-concept Superconducting Acyclic Electromechanical Power Converter (US Navy, NRL, ONR) at the Center for Electromechanics (CEM) at the University of Texas at Austin, and he created a novel Electrostatic Dehumidification/Condensation system, as well as a novel Photosterilization & Pathogen Detection technique and a novel Ferrohydrodynamic Forward Osmosis system.
