Posted onApril 25, 2012byAdmin Diane Gatchell, R.Ph., was named by Pharmacy Times and Parata Systems as the 2011 Technology Innovator of the Year at the Next-Generation Pharmacist Awards given in August at the JFK Presidential Library in Boston. This nationally recognized award is given to the pharmacist "who most successfully, creatively, and comprehensively utilizes technology in its myriad forms to advance the reputation and define the future of the pharmacy industry. Diane was recognized specifically for her work in piloting the first retail telepharmacy project in Massachusetts. Telepharmacy is a cutting edge technology that increases access to medicine via remote medication dispensers. Diane has served as Director of Pharmacy at GLFHC since 2005.

Greater Lawrence Family Health Center Learn to Partner with Physicians Diane shares tips for building strong partnerships with prescribing physicians. Get Diane's Tips Diane Martin, pharmacist and associate vice president of pharmacy operations at Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, uses technology to increase safety and efficiency, reduce costs and support pharmacists' role as key players on the health care team. "In addition to these health challenges, most of our patient population is Spanish-speaking," says Diane. Diane and her team turned to technology to increase efficiency and provide patients with greater access to pharmacists. Diane and her team use mobile technology to counsel patients beyond the walls of the pharmacy. "With Max, we have been able to double our script volume without hiring more staff," Diane says. "We're saving time and money - two precious resources that we're putting to good use." Diane and her team use the extra time to provide hands-on patient care. Thanks in part to the pharmacy department's efforts, the region has seen a dramatic decrease in infant mortality and teen pregnancy rates. And the number of Latino patients effectively managing their diabetes has nearly tripled in the last five years. Greater Lawrence is planning to expand its clinical pharmacy program, working in partnership with its patient-centered medical home to improve the quality of and access to patient care. "In order to offer these additional services, a pharmacy must be financially stable," says Diane. Diane Martin, R.Ph.
