Denny Indrayana, the secretary of the Judicial Mafia Taskforce, however, said that the Criminal Code could not free Nunun's husband from legal charges due to the principle of lex specialis derogat generali, a legal doctrine that states that a law governing a specific subject overrides a law that only governs general matters.
"The Law on Corruption [concerns a specific subject] while the Criminal Code is for general crimes. "If Adang refuses [to reveal Nunun's location], the KPK can take action against him because he is considered to have helped hide a criminal despite being the suspect's husband," Denny said. He cited the 2003 Law on Terrorism, also considered a specific law, which enabled law enforcers to charge blood relatives and spouses of terrorist suspects.

Gayus also said that Denny, who promised to protect him, had politicized his case to serve Denny's own interests. Gayus also accused Denny of intimidating his wife, Milana Anggraeni. Denny, the Judicial Mafia Taskforce's secretary, denied all Gayus' accusations. "I have data and information about this case. [Gayus' statements] are totally not true," Denny told reporters at the State Palace.
