About 10:30 Thursday night, State Trooper Dennis Wilder suspected that the driver of a sport utility vehicle had been drinking and pulled him over.

survived a confrontation with a gunman seven years ago.In that incident, Wilder
faced automatic rifle and shotgun fire during a high-speed chase along Interstate 25.He
was injured by glass fragments after his
patrol car was riddled with bullets.

Wilder, 37, dodged bullets in 2000 while chasing a fleeing Ford Bronco on Interstate 25. Wilder
, a nine-year State Patrol veteran, was shot in the left foot Thursday night when a gunman opened fire during a traffic stop.He
was listed in fair condition Friday. Wilder
joined the patrol in January 1998 and received the Medal of Valor for his
"heroic actions" in the high-speed chase in 2000. Wilder
made headlines for dodging bullets fired out of the back of the Bronco he
was chasing.The patrol estimated nearly 60 rounds were fired at pursuing officers.
Shards of glass embedded in Wilder's face, eye and arm as the bullets shattered his
vehicle's passenger window.
The two men in the Bronco were arrested after Wilder
rammed the vehicle, sending it into a spin and allowing troopers to surround it.
