Denny was presented with the "Tennis Official of the Year" award.In addition to his work on the SATA Appeals committee, rules committee and awards committee, Denny has been a certified tennis official since 1993.For the past two years he has been Chairperson of the Georgia Tennis Officials.He has umpired at Division II Regional Championships as well Division I and Division II dual matches for both Men's and Womens teams.He has personally recruited 5 new certified tennis officials for District 8 this past year.Denny also serves on the Executive Board of USTA Georgia as Secretary.

SATA's Dennis Mallast Nominated for Secretary of USTA Georgia Executive Committee
The USTA Georgia Tennis Association announced recently the nomination of Denny Mallast from Savannah to serve on the GTA's Executive Committee as Secretary beginning January 2005 for a two year term.Denny is currently completing his 6th year as a member of the GTA Board of Directors.He will be the first person from Savannah to serve on the Executive Committee.
Denny has been actively involved in tennis for over twenty years.He has been a member of the United States Professional Registry (USPTR) since receiving his instructor rating in 1983.He has volunteered his services in many capacities during this time period: coached the high school tennis team (2 years) in the same school district he served as an elementary school principal for 26 years; provided tennis lessons in an adult education program for 8 years; served as the local league coordinator for the Buffalo NY area (USTA Eastern Section); held the position of NTRP verifier for 5 years while in Buffalo; prior to leaving Buffalo he was presented the Volunteer of the Year award for the Western Region of USTA Eastern.
Since retiring to Savannah in December 1995 with his wife Marjorie, Denny has served on many State committees while representing Savannah on the USTA Georgia Board of Directors.He was honored this past year with the USTA Georgia Service Award along with the USTA Southern Section State Volunteer Service Award as the "Unsung Hero" recipient.As a USTA official, he can be found volunteering his time as an umpire at collegiate matches in Statesboro or Savannah.He uses his background as a certified USTA Official to write a monthly column entitled "What's The Call?".This column can be found on the SATA web site under the link "Tennis Help".In addition, the column has been a regular feature for over 3 years in the Southbridge Racquet Club's monthly newsletter.
He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in education from the State University College at Buffalo.Denny and Marj have two daughters who reside in Maryland with their 4 grandsons.
