WSJM reports that Benton Harbor City Commissioner Dennis Knowles resigned Monday night, so even though his name is still on Tuesday’s ballot, he is not seeking re-election.
If voters chose Knowles at the polls, it will be up to Emergency Manager Tony Saunders to appoint a replacement.

In a story published in the Herald-Palladium last week, Benton Harbor City Commissioner Dennis Knowles referred to several elected officials as "traitors" who should be "executed.
According to the story, Knowles said: "I believe the United States government needs to execute these traitors," referring to Governor Rick Snyder, state Representative Al Pscholka, and state Senator John Proos. "I ask that these groups not engage in the type of violence - or anything remotely approaching it - embodied by the hatred in Mr. Knowles' statement.

Benton Harbor City Commissioner Dennis Knowles, a critic of the state's emergency manager law, said he is consulting with attorneys about a possible case built on claims of Open Meetings Act violations.
No suit has yet been filed. "It is a tougher case, but it's a case," Knowles said.
