Dennis Eklof, executive managing director of Global Energy for Global Insight in Lexington, said allegations of open collusion in the oil industry are hard to make stick. "We have a lot of players...it's a very diverse market," he said."But (consumers) like to find someone to blame when something inconvenient happens, and oil companies are a target." Eklof, like Hickman, said the remarkable uptick in prices this week is the result of several factors and bad timing."We had very tight circumstances at exactly the wrong time," Eklof said."It was right when distributors were looking for a build-up of stocks before Labor Day weekend." AAA's Kinsman said that argument may have worked last week, but he doesn't believe it now.
