Dennis Bisgaard, Head of Kingswood-Oxford School, West Hartford, CT has spent 22 years in teaching and administrative roles in independent schools in the U.S.: at Shady Hill School in Cambridge, Massachusetts as Associate Director; at Collegiate School in New York City as the Founding Director of the Collegiate School Teaching Institute and a senior administrator; at the Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore, Maryland as a teacher, advisor, and coach; and at Temple University as a graduate fellow in the African and Caribbean Studies Departments.
Prior to that, Dennis Bisgaard
taught in Europe.
He holds a Masters Degree in British and American Literature and a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education, both from Odense Universitet in Odense, Denmark, and a Master of Arts degree from Teachers College Columbia University in Educational Administration.
Dennis speaks four languages, he is the only head of school who also happens to be an person of color in CT and New England, and he brings his educational experience and background to KO from Germany, Denmark, Canada, and the east coast.
Dennis serves on a number of boards, among them the National Association of Independent Schools (he is the only head of school from Connecticut and New England), the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools, the National Association for Principals of Schools for Girls (he is the only head in the country to serve on all three boards simultaneously), and Covenant Prep School, a school that serves underprivileged boys from Hartford.
Dennis is married to Monica, herself an educator with a Masters degree from Harvard University, whose background is counseling psychology.
