Dennis B. Batangan
Dennis B. Batangan, M.D.,M.Sc. is a health social science researcher and public health specialist.
He has a degree in B.S. Psychology (cum laude, 1982) from UP-Diliman and subsequently finished medicine at UP-Manila (Doctor of Medicine, 1986).
He has a Master of Science degree (Major: Community Health for Developing Countries) from University of Heidelberg.
Since 1987, he
has conducted studies on Filipino-oriented health systems, indigenous knowledge and practices on health, community based social health insurance schemes, human resources for health, information, communication and technology for health, and access to medicines in developing countries.
He currently chairs the People-Managed Health Services and Multi Purpose Cooperative and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Medical Action Group and Health Futures Foundation, Inc, and serves as an independent expert in the annual Framework Program 7 project evaluations of the European Commission-Directorate on Research and Innovation in Belgium.
He is also a health policy and finance consultant of the Philippine Business for Social Progress and manages a local health systems project in his hometown in Guimba, Nueva Ecija.
In 1991, he
received the Dr. Tranquilino Paez Memorial Award for Community Health Service from the Nueva Ecija Medical Society
In 1997, he
received the University of the Philippines Alumni Association
Professional Award in Public and Community Health.
