Hernando HealthCare recently announced the promotion of Denise Barbera, RN, BSN, MA, to system chief nursing executive for Hernando HealthCare and Margaret Doerr, RN, MSN, to chief nursing executive for Brooksville Regional Hospital.
Barbera joined Spring Hill Regional Hospital in March 2010 as chief nursing executive. She has been instrumental in implementing hourly rounding, senior nurse leader rounding and improved patient satisfaction through process improvements. Barbera earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Molloy College in New York. She completed her masters in the Art of Organizational Development at the University of Phoenix and the Wharton Nursing Leadership Program at the University of Pennsylvania.

"We recognize that for women who plan to breastfeed, the hospital experience strongly influences a mother's ability to start and continue breastfeeding," she added.

"We are different than everyone else in the area in the services and patient initiatives, including safety, we provide," said Denise Barbera, chief nursing officer at Spring Hill Regional.
"Safety measures are my first priority," Barbera said, "We have installed cameras in designated areas for general medical observation and pediatric observation for those patients who are at higher risk for falls and injury. Monitoring is approved by family members." Additional safety measures include new technology for medication administration to reduce medication errors including scanning procedures and 'smart' pumps, added Barbera. "Some of our added services include pulmonary function tests in house, interventional radiological biopsies, and new nuclear medicine testing for Parkinson's disease," Barbera said. "In tracking mandated trends, we are extremely low in ventilator-associated pneumonia occurrences, one in five years, due to our strict guidelines for patient care," Barbera said.
