concluded that it was a true and accurate record.
8. Chairman's Report 2003: Denis Johnstone
stated that he
felt it had been a particularly difficult last year for the band, accompanied by the break up of the Grade 3A section.Unlike previous Chairs he
was not able to report progress in the band. The past year had been one of stagnation, but there were growing signs of a more positive future.Nonetheless, the band had fulfilled all its engagements, and had performed particularly well on Games Day despite the downpour! From a personal point of view it had been too long a summer.Despite the prospect of having to board a coach at 6.00am to travel to competitions, he
nonetheless missed the camaraderie of travelling together and competing. He
sincerely hoped that this situation would be corrected in the coming year.He
continued by saying that the band was effectively in a period of transition.
thanked Donald Flynn for his report.
thanked Walter Anderson for his report.
12 Election of Office Bearers: Denis Johnstone
referred to the bands' constitutional requirement for the phased resignation and election of office bearers and committee members.
advised that the band he
had been playing with during the past year would not exist next season, and he
was interested in returning to Burntisland with the intention of taking on a Grade 4b competing band for mainly local competitions during 2004.Additionally, Denis Johnstone
also referred to a former Grade 1 drummer's interest in coming forward for next year.Following a wide ranging discussion about a number of aspects of a possible return to competition, Denis Johnstone
confirmed that he
believed that everyone would be able to play with the proposed band, but as with every other band, it would be the pipe major's decision who would play on competition day.
felt that these were valid questions which could be raised by members when a players meeting could be arranged.Playing members then agreed to mandate Denis Johnstone
"to offer the position of Pipe Major to Jim Forbes and invite him to meet with band players and discuss establishing a future competing band early in the New Year".
...Chairman: Denis Johnstone.
