...Dee Cantrell - GWHEA Secretary 2007Dee Cantrell was born in Columbus, Georgia and grew up in the Columbus/Phenix City, Alabama area.She graduated from Central High School in Phenix City, and that was just the beginning!Dee obtained a Bachelors in Nursing degree, a Family Practitioner certification, a Masters in Community Health, and a Doctorate in Community Health and Education from Auburn University.
In addition, Dee
received many other honors in her
scholastic career, including Beta Club

in Nursing School
and Practitioner School
and the Sister Laurentine Award for the person most likely to succeed in the medical field. Dee
has been married to prominent Walking Horse trainer Bill Cantrell for 39 years, and has been extremely active in the Tennessee Walking Horse industry for all of her life.

, has been inducted into the Trainers "Friendship Club
," and has been profiled in the Blue Ribbon yearbook.She has been a director of TWHBEA and served on various TWHBEA committees, president of GWHLA, and a long-time member of GWHEA, AWHA, and WHOA.
In addition, Dee
won the 15'2 and Under Amateur World Championship with Delight's Copy C at the 1983 Celebration. Dee
has been a Public Health employee for the State of Georgia for over 36 years, before retiring in 2005.She was a District Program Manager for the Georgia Department of Human Resources where she was responsible for managing over 63 comprehensive public health services with over 500 employees and a 24 million dollar budget.Dee
was honored as the 1999 Woman of the Year for the State of Georgia.She
has always loved her
profession and considers service the public to be an honor and a wonderful opportunity!Now that she
has retired, she
is writing a book Coloring Outside the Lines, which tells the story about her
first five AIDS patients.
Dee feels that "fun" be included in our daily activities.In addition to horses, Dee
enjoys reading, walking, and family events.Dee
and Bill are proud godparents to 4 adorable children.
