Debbie Egel, RN, Esq - New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS)

www.thecrimereport.org

Debbie Egel, a staff attorney for New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, said at the Suffolk hearing that the only way an oversight initiative can work is if it has the cooperation of all the agencies that feed funds into sober homes.
"OASAS can't fix this problem by itself, that's the reality," Egel said.

Debbie Egel:
Debbie's life's work has been dedicated to working with and helping the public. She has worked tirelessly for the last 13 years at Creedmoor Addiction Treatment Center (CATC). Her nursing career evolved from that of a staff nurse into a leadership role that has been recognized and led to changes across the state ATC system. In addition, Debbie's activism led her from being an elected local leader within the Public Employees Federation Union to a statewide leader. Debbie has successfully represented both the employees of Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse (OASAS), in addition to, representing 8,200 nurses working within eight different state agencies throughout New York State . Debbie currently serves within PEF as an Executive Board member, Co-Chair of the Statewide Nursing Committee, and the Statewide Labor Management Chair. In addition, she serves on the Leadership Committee for the American Federation of Teachers, as an Executive Board member of Institute for Professional Development in Addictions and a member of the Substance Abuse Task Force. Motivated by these complex roles Debbie returned to school where she earned her Jurist Doctorate degree. Currently, Debbie remains in State service while practicing at the firm of Andrew Jaloza & Associates.
