Debbie Meyers-Martin (Olympia Fields, IL) Mayor Debbie Meyers-Martin has been the Village President (Mayor) of the Village of Olympia Fields, IL since December 2010. Since stepping into this role, Meyers-Martin has appeared on CNN News Magazine, a nationally televised program, to discuss economic and retail development in multicultural communities. Additionally, Village President Meyers-Martin was invited to attend a White House Conference on the issue of "America's First Suburbs. At this conference, she was able to voice her concerns, as well as her hopes, for the Village's future as a thriving multicultural community in the South Suburbs. Leveraging her professional experience with Chambers of Commerce and municipalities across the metropolitan region, President Meyers-Martin created an Economic Development Committee. This committee, comprised of the Village's most successful business leaders, will advise the Village of Olympia Fields on how best to expand its business community, improve business retention, and ultimately, enhance its economic vitality. President Debbie Meyers-Martin has been involved with local government since 1983. She served on the Country Club Hills Human Relations Commission assisting municipalities with the transition of the south suburbs to a more culturally diverse community. Ms. Meyers-Martin worked with Fair Housing Organizations across the Chicago Southland to ensure that fair and equitable housing needs were available to all people seeking residency in the south suburbs. Ms. Meyers-Martin proceeded to work as the Community Relations Coordinator for the Village of Hazel Crest. It was there that she worked to develop and maintain community events that reflected the diversity of the region. Meyers-Martin has also served as Housing Coordinator for the South Suburban Housing Center's Homeseeker Service. Additionally, Meyers-Martin has worked for Speaker Michael Madigan and the Democratic Party as Outreach Coordinator in the South Suburbs. She has provided expertise to the NAACP Voter Fund in the year 2000 to assist with the major Voter Registration Project created to address voter turnout in the minority communities. Debbie Meyers-Martin came to the Illinois State Treasurer's Office in 2007. She became the Program Coordinator for the Employ Illinois which later became the Business Invest Program under Treasurer Rutherford. As Coordinator, she became the Treasurer's Office's liaison to all local Chambers of Commerce, Small Business Development Centers, Economic Development Councils and suburban municipalities throughout the State of Illinois. Moreover, Ms. Meyers-Martin has worked with small business, entrepreneurs, not-for-profit businesses and organizations, government entities as well as financial institutions in order to provide information and guidance on the programs offered by the State Treasurer's Office. Currently, Ms. Meyers-Martin serves the Treasurer's Office as a Community Affairs Marketing Specialist where she provides I-Cash services and is responsible for the marketing and promoting all programs administered through the Treasurer's Office, including Illinois Funds and The College Investment Program, Bright Start. Previous to her work at the Illinois State Treasurer's Office, she served as Legislative Liaison for State Representative David Miller in the Illinois General Assembly. She currently is a member of the Moraine Valley Economic Development Council for the Southwest Suburbs, Prairie State College's President's Advisory Committee, the South/Southwest United Way Advisory Board, the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus' Economic Development Committee, the Southland Regional Black Mayor's Caucus, the Illinois EPA Commission on Environmental Justice, The Homewood League of Women Voters, the Democratic Women of the South Suburbs(DWSS), and the National African-American Mayor's Association. Debbie Meyers-Martin currently serves as the Mayor of the Village of Olympia Fields and the 2015/2016 President of the South Suburban Mayors and Managers, a Council of Government overseeing 45 municipalities in the Chicago Southland.
