"I think he's an exemplary teacher," said Debbie Feick, director of curriculum at Mount Pleasant Township Community Schools.
Feick said the children are sometimes challenged by more than their special needs.Acceptance in the school and community settings is one example of those challenges.
"A practical, functional approach teaches not only the children but the people in the community around them about their worth and integrity as students," Feick said.
He focuses on encouragement and students' strengths and said that young teachers shouldn't be 'afraid to try something new and don't be afraid to know your students and their backgrounds.' "

Debbie Feick, a former Special Education Teacher with the Muncie Community Schools, filed Tuesday to fill one of the three vacant school board seats. She is prepared to help make an impact on the educational services offered within Center Township. "My number one priority is serving the children and families within our district," Feick said.
Feick graduated from Butler University in 1972 with a bachelor's degree in sociology. She earned a master's degree in special education from Butler University in 1973. She was a special education teacher for the Delaware Community Schools, Central High School, Southside High School and Wilson Middle School.
