David Shaw graduated from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh before qualifying as a Scottish Chartered Accountant in 1974.

before moving with 3i to the US to establish their US office in 1982.
He returned to London in 1987 to head their Management Buy-out business.
David joined County NatWest in 1989 to head the private equity division and built a substantial business within the framework of County NatWest plc.
In 1998 he
raised their first independent fund of €1.6 billion for investment in western European mid-market private companies.
In 1999 as Chief Executive and Chairman he successfully led the Buy-out of the business from NatWest to form Bridgepoint Capital.
Since then Bridgepoint
has raised three further funds in excess of €9 billion.
David retired from Bridgepoint in December 2009.
In addition to his Bridgepoint activities, David has served as Chairman of Aberforth Smaller Companies Trust and retired in early 2010 but continues to retain the position of Chairman of Dyslexia Scotland, is a Non-Executive Director of Scottish Equity Partners, Glasgow and was appointed to the Board of F&C Private Equity Trust plc in November 2009.
