David ParkerDAVID PARKER is a 2013 Guggenheim fellow for choreography.
In 1995 Parker founded The Bang Group, a company devoted to his love of rhythmic form and the humor and connection it brings to artists and audiences alike.TBG has toured extensively though the U.S. and Europe.
In addition to his work with The Bang Group, he has created over 30 commissioned works for dance companies, universities, festivals and soloists both here and abroad.He has won awards for his work in The Netherlands, Germany and Monaco and has won community awards from Dancers Responding to AIDS, Dance Theater Workshop and The Gibney Dance Center.
His notorious Velcro duet was given a New York Dance and Performance Award for Design in 2002.
Mr. Parker teaches dance composition at The Juilliard School, Barnard College, Hunter College and The Alvin Ailey School and was visiting professor at Princeton University and SUNY Purchase.He writes regularly about dance for Dance Magazine and The Brooklyn Rail and has served as an artist/curator for Danspace Project's Platform Series (Rhythm and Humor), Gotham Arts Focus Dance, 92nd Street Y's Fridays at Noon and, for the past three seasons, at The Yard's annual Tap the Yard Festival on Martha's Vineyard. www.thebanggroup.com.

Choreographic awards include a 2013 Guggenheim Fellowship in choreography, a New York Dance and Performance (Bessie) Award for Design, Finalist Prize from the IV International Competition for Choreographers of Contemporary Dance, Special Citation from the Kurt Jooss Awards Jury, Emerging Choreographer of Distinction from the Nijinsky Awards Jury in Monte Carlo, Philanthropy Award from Dancers Responding to AIDS, MOVE Award from Dance Theater Workshop, Art + Action Award from Gibney Dance Center, "Best of Fringe" citation from Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and several "Ten Best of the Year" citations from newspapers and journals in Boston, Antwerp, London, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Montreal and Cleveland.

David ParkerDavid Parker founded his New York City-based dance company, The Bang Group in 1996 to pursue his interest in the percussive possibilities of the dancing body.
His work is wide-rangingly anarchic and subversive but always tempered by an abiding love of formalism.
Mr. Parker was commissioned to create a new work for the Juilliard Dance Division's freshman class in the fall of 2006, will begin a new collaboration with long-term colleague Sara Hook in August 2006 and will be back at Dance Theater Workshop with an evening of new work in the spring of 2007.
Parker teaches dance composition at Barnard College and The Alvin Ailey School, serves on the board of directors of The Field and Danspace Project and is a member of the Bessie Awards Committee.

Jeffrey Kazin has been dancing with David Parker for over 22 years and almost exclusively for David for the last 19.
As a principal dancer with The Bang Group Jeffrey has created many original roles both domestically and internationally and has had the opportunity to teach and set David Parker's work on students and companies throughout the U.S. In additional to his dancing roles with TBG, Jeffrey is also a Director, CFO, sometimes Graphic Designer, General Factotum and serves on its Board of Directors.

David serves on the faculties of The Julliard School, Barnard College and The Alvin Ailey School where he teaches dance composition.
Nic first worked with David Parker and The Bang Group at Summer Stages Dance in Concord in 2002 and joined TBG as a full company member in 2005.
In the world beyond TBG, Mr. Kazin, as a guest artist, has appeared in Italy in the title role of the Arena di Verona BalletÕs production of Dylan Dog choreographed by David Parker and as an evil step-sister in New York Theatre Ballet's Cinderella.
KATHY KAUFMANN has been happily designing lighting for David Parker & the Bang Group since its inception.
Parker has been commissioned by the American Dance Festival, Arena di Verona Ballet Company, Anna Sokolow Players Project, The Juilliard School, Summer Stages Dance in Concord, MA and numerous colleges and universities throughout North America and Europe.
Parker serves on the faculty of the Alvin Ailey School, Barnard College, the board of directors of Danspace Project and The Field and is a member of the Bessies Committee.He is also a co-founder of The Pink Ribbon Project: Dancers in Motion Against Breast Cancer.
