David N. Mullany founded ... [cached]

David N. Mullany founded Wiffle Ball in 1953 in Shelton, Conn., and a third generation of the Mullany family still owns the company today. The plastic bats and balls continue to feature the same measurement dimensions in 2013 that were found in the 1953 products, plus the artwork on the boxes remains the same as it was some 60 years ago.

Today, Wiffle Ball products are sold to customers in all 50 states as well as 26 countries. Each of the perforated plastic balls and thin plastic bats are made in America, produced by a dozen or so full-time employees in Shelton.
Mullany started the company after one day seeing that his son and other younger children in the neighborhood were kicked off local ballfields by older kids. His son and young friends found tennis balls and started playing baseball with them in their backyards, but parents eventually stopped that practice due to broken windows and dented siding on neighborhood houses.
Mullany eventually found a plastic golf ball - a relatively new item in the early 1950s - and gave it to his son to try as a makeshift tiny baseball. The ball worked, then Mullany ultimately developed an actual-size plastic baseball with perforations that made the ball curve.
