David Moore was born and raised in the Township and served as a teacher at Parry Sound High School for 31 years, seven as Head of the English Department.
While raising a son and a daughter, he
wife, Ann, have dedicated their lives to the service of the community.
At the age of 33, David was elected to the Township of McKellar Council and served as a councillor for six years and as its highly respected Reeve for 19 years from 1991 to 2010.
term of office, he
served on numerous Township and Parry Sound area committees and was responsible for and helped with many improvements in the Township, including the creation of Minerva Park, the creation of the Balsam Trail, the replacement of the old waste disposal site with a transfer station, the building of and subsequent expansion of the Community Centre
, the establishment of a beach in Maplewood and a ball park in Broadbent, the building of and more recent addition to Fire Station #2, the establishment of the skating rink, and the replacement of the rink with a covered multi-purpose surface.
faced many challenges and opportunities as Reeve, managing them all with good grace and respect for both proponents and challengers alike.
Among them were the building of the Ridge at Manitou Golf Course
, the first Official Plan for the Township and subsequent OPA6 and OPA7 amendments, the replacement of many bridges, the establishment of several subdivisions and numerous improvements to Township infrastructure and acquisition of new equipment.
Prior to his
term of office, he
was heavily involved in the Township Recreation Committee
, was instrumental in the establishment of the Township Library
, and founded and ran the Terry Fox Run in the Township for many years.
organized horseshoe and arm wrestling contests for the Fall Fair.
established the Historical Committee
and collaborated with Evelyn Moore on many historical projects including the promotion and editing of her
book "McKellar Memories."
Both Evelyn Moore and David Moore
have made significant contributions to the education, health, welfare and quality of life for all residents of the Township of McKellar.
