DR DAVID W. MEGRAN
Senior Vice President & Chief Medical Officer, Physician Leadership Portfolio
The Calgary Health Region appointed Dr. David Megran as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer in January 2005.
He also continues as a member of the Regional and University Department of Medicine (Division of Infectious Diseases).
Dr. Megran was Chair of the Calgary Health Region Medical Advisory Board from 2002 to 2004, and, at the same time, was Deputy Head, Finance for the Department of Medicine.
Prior to that, he was the Residency Training Program Director for Internal Medicine (1995 to 2001) and the Interim Regional Clinical Department Head, Medicine (2001 to 2002).
In addition, he
has been very involved in the Acute Care Strategic Service Distribution Project and more recently in planning for the new Southeast Health Campus.
Dr. Megran is a native of Montreal who graduated from Medical School at McGill University in 1979.
trained in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases in Toronto and Vancouver respectively.
In 1985, he moved to Calgary to assume a clinical position at the Calgary General Hospital and to become Director of the Calgary Sexually Transmitted Diseases Clinic. e has been a full-time member of the Faculty of Medicine, Departments of Medicine and Microbiology/Infectious Diseases since his arrival in Calgary and at present holds the rank of Associate Professor.
Over the years, Megran
has provided Infectious Diseases consultative care at the Calgary General/Peter Lougheed Hospitals and Foothills Medical Centre
and, to a lesser degree, at the Rockyview General
and Alberta Children's Hospitals.
has won a number of teaching awards and has fulfilled a variety of Medical Education leadership roles.
In the past, he has served on provincial advisory committees for STDs and AIDS and has been both councillor and subcommittee Chair for the Canadian Infectious Diseases Society.
