Rev. David L. Maxwell, senior editor, Geneva Press, Presbyterian Publishing Corporation
What lured Jesus back to Jerusalem, the center of religious and political power that cared little for his message undermining their authority? Was it obedience to his divine destiny? That is, was he simply following a blueprint mapped out by God that said: "Scene IV: Death and Resurrection"?Or was it a conviction that as leader of this movement, he must be on the front line, unmasking wolfish leaders clothed as doves who were confusing the people? As leader he must confront a church hierarchy that too easily accommodated itself to a corrupt political system not serving the "least of these."

Maxwell to Join Presbyterian Publishingas Geneva Press Editor
(Louisville, KY, November 5, 2004), The Rev. David L. Maxwell will join the staff of the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation (PPC) as Geneva Press editor, effective January 1, 2005, announced PPC Vice President and Editorial Director Jack Keller today. In this position, Maxwell will have special responsibility for the development of print and electronic resources for clergy, leaders, and laity in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and in broader ecumenical appeal.
"David brings a multitude of gifts to PPC that make him particularly well suited to lead the portion of our publishing program that serves Presbyterian congregations and congregational leaders," said Keller."His international interests and experience bring an additional dimension to Geneva Press, which publishes resources for all segments of the Presbyterian and larger church community, including Korean Americans and Hispanic Americans, whose churches and membership rank among our fastest growing segments. In addition, David has worked closely with us in developing our 'Books without Borders' benevolence program, which provides free reference works to religious libraries in developing countries around the world."
Since 1998, Maxwell has served the PC(USA) as Coordinator of Global Education and International Leadership Development for the Worldwide Ministries Division of the General Assembly Council of the PC(USA).Prior to that, he served for two years in the Church's Mission Service Recruitment Office, and earlier in mission service as an educator in Chile for five years.Maxwell is fluent in Spanish and has worked as a street minister to Latin American refugees in New York, organizing English language courses and performing marriages, baptisms, and memorial services. He is a member of the Mid-Kentucky Presbytery Council and holds a master of divinity degree from Yale Divinity School, where he graduated with honors.
"The main attraction about being the new Geneva Press editor is that it fits my call in ministry-to equip the saints to provide the best ministry they can in their individual contexts," said Maxwell.

David Maxwell, Editor, of "The Thoughtful Christian" wrote recently "I notice more and more how fear has crept into almost everything I see or hear in the media: news shows bombard us with the fear of the hour, advertisers use fear to persuade us to purchase things we don't need, and politicians flood the airwaves with ads scaring us to vote one way or the other out of fear.
