"We're more than happy to play that game," said Cyclones owner David LeFevre.
"But even if we would lose, we'd have to play out the next 19 years on our agreement with the Firstar Center."
It's a fascinating thing, that agreement.
Let me ask you this: Does it seem feasible that an ownership team of highly successful people - LeFevre
and Phil Esposito were responsible for bringing the NHL to Florida - would enter into a 20-year contract to keep an East Coast Hockey League team in a troubled coliseum on an evolving riverfront?
..."(LeFevre and Esposito) have been pretty blunt about it," added Firstar general manager Jim Moehring.
"We came in here strictly to do the ECHL," LeFevre
said."But we do have a provision in our agreement with the Nederlanders that says we will actively work to bring the NHL or in fact the NBA to the building.
"Because Cincinnati has such great college basketball, the NBA probably makes a little less sense.I think all the ingredients are there for a very vibrant NHL franchise."
But just one.
