"I'm not here to scare you out of anything," Beacon President David LeFevre said."It's a very good, very positive project. The threshold issue here is public versus private sectors.Your government is thinking about stepping out of that traditional role of government and into owning a hockey team.Is that a good business?"
LeFevre shared with board members and a couple dozen audience members - including United Hockey League IceHogs owners Dr. Kris Tumilowicz and Craig Drecktrah - statistics from recent years on minor-league hockey.
In 2000, with seven leagues nationwide, minor-league hockey was 111 teams strong, LeFevre said.Today, there are five leagues and 86 teams.
"What Corey (Pearson) has put together is a good, smart thing," LeFevre said.

"We're more than happy to play that game," said Cyclones owner David LeFevre."But even if we would lose, we'd have to play out the next 19 years on our agreement with the Firstar Center."
It's a fascinating thing, that agreement.
Let me ask you this: Does it seem feasible that an ownership team of highly successful people - LeFevre and Phil Esposito were responsible for bringing the NHL to Florida - would enter into a 20-year contract to keep an East Coast Hockey League team in a troubled coliseum on an evolving riverfront?
"(LeFevre and Esposito) have been pretty blunt about it," added Firstar general manager Jim Moehring.
"We came in here strictly to do the ECHL," LeFevre said."But we do have a provision in our agreement with the Nederlanders that says we will actively work to bring the NHL or in fact the NBA to the building.
"Because Cincinnati has such great college basketball, the NBA probably makes a little less sense.I think all the ingredients are there for a very vibrant NHL franchise."
But just one.
