Please join David Krobe; the PEF state wide veterans chair, and myself in honoring our fallen heroes.
PEF Veterans Committee Co-Chair David Krobe urged all veterans to register with the Veterans Administration. "Only 47 percent of veterans are registered," he said.
Krobe said the committee also is concerned about threats to close an Air Force base in Niagara Falls, and the union continues to seek improvements to the Veterans' Buy Back Law.
One of the biggest problems vets face in getting lawmakers to respond to their issues, Krobe said, is that "most politicians have never served in the armed forces and their family members have never served."

After years of joint leadership by Richard Collins of Region 9 and David Krobe of Region 1, who have both retired from state service, PEF President Ken Brynien handed over the reins of the statewide Veterans' Committee to Richard Fletcher, the Chair of the Region 5 Veterans' Committee.
And Debbie Egel, former co-chair of the PEF Nurses Committee thanked Krobe for his years of "inspiration and support to nurses."
Collins moved out of state after his retirement in 2005, and Krobe will continue as chair of the Region 1 Veterans' Committee.
Dave Krobe has been an inspirational leader and has raised our level of understanding of what it means to be a veteran in PEF.
"I believe the best education for being a leader is to put you in the position of being a leader," Brynien said and added that he wanted to build a broader base of experienced leadership for the future by bringing in a new leader to the committee now while some of the more experienced leaders are still active.

David Krobe, co-chair of PEF’s Veterans’ Committee, said the state announced in August the closing of three of the 12 veterans’ hospitals in New York.
“It’s upsetting to all of us,” Krobe said.
Krobe said lawmakers didn’t make much time for veterans’ issues in the past, but PEF helped achieve a victory by pushing for the service-credit buy-back legislation.
“Thanks to union leadership, we got that bill passed,” Krobe said.
“There’s nothing this lady hasn’t done for vets since she’s been in her job,” Krobe said.
