"The speed of this sell-off is really amazing," said David Greenberg, founder of Greenberg Capital and the former NYMEX board director.
"Thirty years ago, everyone had an opinion. Now, these algorithms are basically written the same way. Once the algo kicks in to the sell side, or even the buy side, there is opinions, there is nothing to stop this market." "If you're long, it's not a great place to be, but by no means is it a catastrophe," Greenberg said.

The Street Interview with David Greenberg
"It's hard to say that 25% of all NYSE trading is done on the floor," said David Greenberg a former NYMEX board member and president of Schaeffer Greenberg Advisors. The exchange's explanation didn't satisfy Greenberg either. "NYMEX learned many years ago the dangers of a mid-week roll out of new technology," he said. The exchange "should have known better, and this is no excuse for a major exchange to be down for over three hours without having the ability to switch to a back up system within minutes. "This halt along with the inability of the NYSE to open after Hurricane Sandy placed a major dent into their brand. This showed once again the NYSE has become less relevant."
