"A generalized statement doesn't get it," said David Gaddis, grain manager for United Prairie Ag, which has locations from Stevens County to Kearny County. "We've had drought. We've had hail. We're fortunate that we have had some customers blessed with a rainfall or two. But we do have a number of abandoned acres, particularly around Ulysses."

Grant County was the hardest hit in the company's territory, Gaddis said. Much of the dryland yields in that area have ranged from zero to 9 bushels an acre. Company-wide, bushels binned will be drastically reduced, with Gaddis calling this year's wheat harvest one of the worst ever.
"We're dry," he said.

The milo in Grant County also is seeing low test weights, said David Gaddis, grain manager for United Prairie Ag. Drought-like conditions in the summer, paired with a freeze before the milo matured, means the milo test weights have been low this year.

The milo harvest in the northern part of the county has been delayed this week because of showers, Gaddis said.
