David Bossart has announced his candidacy for re-election as a Harborcreek Township supervisor.
Bossart , who is the township's superintendent of roads and public safety , said he will seek the Republican nomination in the May 15 primaries. He was first elected supervisor in 1989.
He said his record will show more than 35 miles of substandard asphalt and tar-and-chip roads have been upgraded to smoother , safer asphalt surfaces..
That's in addition to updating and computerizing the snowplowing operation , Bossart said.
He said township road crews have been working hand-in-hand to provide better and more efficient services to the township's residents.
In 1990 , Bossart said , he began an aggressive campaign to get state and federal funding needed to open the Nagle Road crossing over railroad tracks.Today , the Nagle Road bridge is becoming a reality because we provided that aggressive leadership , Bossart said.
I am proud of my record and the fact that we did all this without a township tax increase over the past 11 years , he said.
Bossart said Harborcreek will need leadership , dedication and experience to hold the line on taxes.I ask the voters of Harborcreek Township for their votes in 2001 and I will do my best to provide that leadership into the future , he said.
Bossart , 56 , graduated from Cathedral Preparatory School in 1963 and , in 1969 , from Penn State Behrend , where he completed the five-year engineering program. He worked for Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Co. from1963 until he took office in 1990.
He serves as chairman of the East Erie County Emergency Communications Center Municipal Board , as chairman of the Erie Area Council of Governments ( COG ) , as vice chairman of the Municipal Planning Committee for Transportation , and is a life member of the Harborcreek Volunteer Fire Department , where he served as chief for eight years.
Bossart has lived in Harborcreek for 32 years. He and his wife , Susan , are the parents of three adult children , William D. Bossart , Karen R. Bossart and David J. Bossart.
