American University Washington College of Law student David Baluarte was awarded an Equal Justice Foundation Fellowship for the summer of 2004.He will work at the ACLU Immigrants' Rights Project in Oakland, Calif. over the summer.Baluarte, who received a B.A. in international relations from Brown University, is the son of Jorge and Kathleen Baluarte and grew up in West Mt. Airy.
David Carlos Baluarte, of Mt. Airy, a 1994 graduate of Germantown Friends School, received a University Award for Outstanding Scholarship at the graduate level at American University's 109th commencement.
The award requires a continued display off high quality academic work, as evidenced by the academic record, combined with outstanding scholarly contributions in the form of publications, distinguished research, conference participation, selection to academic societies and other professional activity.
Baluarte, who graduated from the university's Washington College of Law, recently accepted a staff attorney position at the Center for Justice and International Law.
