At approximately 12:40 p.m. Thursday, three "young" Latino men cashed three "payroll-type" checks at the Alpine Bank in Snowmass Village, said Snowmass police officer Dave Heivly.
That heist netted some $2,000, Heivly
With cash in hand, the three suspects then went straight to the Alpine branch at the Aspen Airport Business Center
.One suspect cashed a check for nearly $700.Another wasn't as fortunate.
While the man was trying to cash his
check, the AABC branch received a call from its sister bank to stay on the watch for forged paychecks, Bauer said.
"They appeared to be authentic payroll checks," Heivly
Heivly and Bauer said Friday that police have a few leads, but no arrests have been made so far.
"We're working on a few ideas," Heivly
said."Hopefully we'll have them soon."
All of the state's Alpine Bank branches, mainly on the Western Slope, have been put on the alert for the forged checks, which police would not describe in detail.
