"We are taking what we believe to be our deepest team ever to nationals and feel we have an excellent shot at bringing home the team championship," said FLC cycling coach Dave Hagan. He said the Skyhawks, in road racing, finished second in 2006, fourth in 2005, and third in 2004.
"Our men have the daunting task of being two-time defending team time trial champs, with only one rider returning from last year's squad," Hagan said.

He added that the FLC women's team has been practicing two times a week since January for the team trial race at nationals.
Hagan added that the road race and the criterium will be very difficult races with large fields. That makes them very difficult to control with small, four-member teams.
Hagan also credited the outstanding Durango community support for getting the Skyhawks on the road to Lawrence.
Durango Cyclery, Hagan said, rushed to prepare the special disk wheels for the teams to use in the team time trial.

Dave Hagan the guy on the far left of this pic is the guy that worked with Daniela to set the whole thing up. Very cool dude who also was a pro back in his day, and now is the team manager at FLC. He really put on incredible camp for us. THANKS DAVE!! We also ended up giving him a team jersey that we all signed, he then said oh next year...... YES!!!
Fort Lewis cycling coach Dave ..., 14 May 2007 [cached]
Fort Lewis cycling coach Dave Hagan said an unfortunate sequence of events led to the shutout and zero points in the men's crit.
He said after a couple of early breakaways, a key group slipped away from the leaders with 25 minutes to go.
The lead group included riders from Stanford and UC-Davis, the teams directly challenging Fort Lewis.
The breakaway built a lead. Then the FLC riders went to the front of the second group and tried to reel the leaders back in, Hagan said.
Pushing to get back into the race, two FLC riders went down, Hagan said, as Yarden Gazit and Assaf Yogev both skidded to the pavement.
Even worse, Hagan said, was the fact that two more FLC riders got caught in the traffic behind the crash.
"That was the worst case scenario," Hagan said, recalling the frustrating men's crit.
But the deflation of the men's crit was eased by Kristin McGrath's performance in the women's criterium, Hagan said.
Klemko broke away solo early and held her ground, Hagan said.
"But then Kristin McGrath used her KG intelligence, and she went on a solo effort," Hagan said.
"We should be proud," Hagan said.
