Dave Franson

DAVE FRANSON Wichita Aero Club
Dave Franson spent time growing up in both Michigan and Ohio before playing baseball and earning his degree from Wheaton College in 1971. He spent two years as the sports information director at Wheaton after graduation, and another year in the same posi-tion at Wichita State University, before launching his career in a completely different facet: aviation.
Now, after various stints with Cessna, Bombardier Learjet and other aviation-focused companies, Dave serves as the president of Wichita Aero Club, which was founded in the fall of 2008. The club promotes aviation interest, provides a forum that focuses on the industry's issues and achievements, and brings together those with a passion for flight. With a scholar-ship program tied directly to the aero club, the organization highly supports and encourages students who are already in or interested in a career within the aerospace industry.
Dave moved to Wichita just two weeks after marrying his wife, Cindy, 43 years ago. Today, she is a music teacher at Holy Cross Lutheran School and also teaches piano privately outside of the classroom. Their daughter, Sarah, is mar-ried with three children in Phoenix; while their son, Nate, is a district executive for the Pawnee District of the Boy Scouts of America.
Because of his wife's strong musical background, his family is passionate about Wichita's bolstering musical community, but he's also a huge sports fan. He's been a baseball fan all his life, playing at various levels into his early 40s. These days, he supports both the Wichita State Shockers basketball and baseball teams as a season ticket holder and as a member of SASO, the Shocker Athletics Scholarship Organization.
A lifelong golfer, Dave views the Air Capital Classic tournament as a tremendous advertisement for Wichita - the Air Capital of the World - and an even more obvious connection for the Wichita Aero Club. The opportunity to become an ambas-sador surfaced when the Air Capital name was added to it. Dave holds a strong identification with the tournament's ability to show off Wichita's community and the people who put it on.
