Dave Burgering named Future Olympic Force program manager April 22, 2014 USA Diving NewsUSA Diving
USA Diving has named Dave Burgering as its Future Olympic Force program manager, a role Burgering will take on as an independent contractor.
As the Future Olympic Force program manager, Burgering will strategically lead and manage USA Diving's Future Olympic Force and other junior diving initiatives. Burgering, a 1980 Olympian and 2008 Olympic coach, will work closely with the divers and coaches who are members of the Future Olympic Force program and will create a four-year Junior High Performance Plan, implementing strategies that will continuously improve the identification and development of junior divers.
"My vision is to help the divers and coaches who are in the Future Olympic Force - and those who are close to being in the program - understand our goals. I want to help them become the next group of elite level athletes in our sport, not just be elite junior athletes. I want to help them do what they need to do to take that next step," Burgering said.
Burgering brings nearly 30 years of coaching experience with him to the position. He began his coaching career in 1985 with the Mission Viejo Nadadores and has been the head coach of the Fort Lauderdale Diving Team since 2007. He was a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team coaching staff and coached Jevon Tarantino to a fourth-place finish in synchronized 3-meter at the Games in Beijing. Throughout his coaching career, Burgering's divers have won 22 junior national titles and eight senior national titles.
"I'm at the point in my career where I wanted a new challenge to keep the juices flowing. I've been coaching a long time, and I want to share those experiences with others," Burgering said.
