According to Dave Ashley, general manager of the Holiday Inn, 'When the new highway came through, it cut our businesses off from the traffic flow.' Both the Red Roof Inn and the Holiday Inn have both had reduced occupancy rates and have not returned to preconstruction levels of business.
Customers continually comment about the confusing traffic patter; it is very difficult to find the businesses.Even locals have difficulty negotiating the turns and curves. 'Many of our former customers have indicated that they find the new roadways too confusing and are going to businesses at other interstate interchanges,' according to Ashley.

The requests for funding were made Monday by Dave Ashley who has been working in conjunction with the Greater Parkersburg Area Convention and Visitors Bureau on Innovative Program Grant proposals.
Ashley and Carl Pate, who is involved with the USAAA Men's Softball, asked for $2,000 for the Men's Class E State Tournament scheduled for Aug. 31- Sept. 2 at the Dug Out and Eagle Fields in Parkersburg.
"Some of the money will be used to upgrade the fields to bring in more teams," Ashley said.
Between 850 wrestlers are expected to attend," Ashley said.

Meeting with county officials Thursday, Dave Ashley, liaison with the Greater Parkersburg Convention and Visitors Bureau, submitted several grant funding requests.
A request for $2,500 to help fund the Battle for Volcano Civil War re-enactment at Mountwood Park was submitted by Ashley on behalf of the Wood County Parks and Recreation Commission, Mountwood's governing board.
"They asked for $5,000. You funded them $2,500 last year, so we are requesting the same amount as last year until we can better track the number of room nights relating to this event," Ashley told county officials.

Dave Ashley, general manager of the Parkersburg Holiday Inn, faxed a statement to the Parkersburg News and Sentinel, reacting to the verdict.
Ashley said the hotel has cut staff from a high of 130 in 2003 to 69 currently.He said there are no more cuts to be made and stay within standards set by Holiday Inn.
