At the 2015 NSCAA Convention, a special tribute was presented to Dave on behalf of his favorite soccer club (other than FC Richmond). Dave has a passion for the Gunners, and Arsenal came through with an invitation for he and his wife, Joan, to attend the Arsenal v. Manchester United fixture.
On October 4th, Dave and Joan were special guests of Arsenal at the Manchester United fixture. Along with receiving red carpet treatment they also received special Directors Box seats.
Dave was also honored by the Club Champions League (CCL) with a $25,000.00 NSCAA named endowment fund. These funds are established in honor of special people or companies that have have an immense impact upon soccer in the United States. 'The Dave Amsler Club Champions League Endowment Fund' will provide the opportunity for youth soccer coaches committed to grassroots club and player development to attend free NSCAA coaching education diploma courses. According to the NSCAA, the fund is groundbreaking and is the first youth soccer organization to establish such a fund for the Foundation.
In addition, the CCL honored Dave Amsler by naming the CCL Overall Club Champions award after its first President. The CCL Dave Amsler Overall Club Champion Award is presented annually to the member club accumulating the greatest number of points across the Boys and Girls divisions during the season.
The Arsenal special tribute, NSCAA endowment fund and CCL named-award is part of a send-off tribute organized by CCL directors to thank the league's long-time visionary, widely considered the founding father of club-based youth soccer in America.
Dave Amsler founded the Virginia Club Champions League (VCCL) and helped found the CCL. On January 31, 2015, Dave Amsler, Founder and Technical Director of FC Richmond, officially stepped down as League President after 18 years.
