With this appointment, in addition to his existing professorial portfolio, Professor Datuk Syed Othman will be responsible for all academic matters within INCEIF. Prof Datuk Dr Syed Othman Al-Habshi, a respected academician in Malaysia, joined INCEIF as the Professor of Islamic Economics & Econometrics and Head of Takaful Faculty in March 2007. Prof Datuk Dr Syed Othman holds B.Ec (Hons) in Statistics from University of Malaya, M.S. (Statistics) from University of Wisconsin, U.S.A. and Ph.D. in Econometrics from University of Birmingham, U.K. Since 1969, he has served in various academic capacities in four public universities in the country namely University of Malaya, University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and Universiti Utara Malaysia.From October 1997 to May 2005 he served as the Founding President and CEO of Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, the first online university in the region. Prof Datuk Dr Syed Othman Al-Habshi He was also a member of the Board of Trustees, International Institute of Islamic Banking and Economics, Cyprus; a member of the International Advisory Board, International Institute of Islamic Economics, Islamabad; and a member of the First Executive Committee of the International Association of Islamic Economics, London.He served The Islamic Economic Development Foundation, Malaysia (YPEIM) for 10 years, first as Deputy Chairman and later as Chairman of its Board of Trustees.He was also actively involved as Member of the Islamic Consultative Body, Prime Minister's Department (1983 - 1994); and Member, Board of Trustees and Management Committee of Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (1986 - 2000) which is an NGO that deals with micro-credit serving more than100,000 hard-core poor families in Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR: Automotive air-conditioning parts maker Autoair Holdings Bhd is looking at slashing production cost to weather the slowdown in the global automotive industry, said its chairman Datuk Suffian Othman.
He said the group had been recording slower sales and was seeking to slash cost to ensure that it did not have to retrench workers.
