"Members of over 50 families will stage a protest at Jantar Mantar on August 31 to mark the first anniversary of the gruesome Gohana incident in which houses of dalits were set ablaze by members of another community," Adi Dharam Samaj chief Darshan Rattan Ravan - spearheading the protest - said.
He alleged that the Hooda government had announced an interim relief of Rs one lakh for each family whose house had been burnt, but still ten families had not received any compensation.
In the Gohana incident, over 50 houses of dalits were burnt by upper caste people in Sonipat district of Haryana last year.

Making a plea for the cancellation of the CBI inquiry, Mr Ravan said minor incidents of violence were a routine during a bandh but never had a CBI inquiry been ordered into such incidents.
He said while he had no objection to the CBI inquiry into the murder of a Jat youth, Baljit Siwach, in Gohana and the subsequent arson there because the guilty must be punished, irrespective of his caste affiliation, "we strongly object to a similar inquiry into the Panchkula incidents."He said his organisation would give memorandums to the state government and the National Human Rights Commission in this regard.
A CBI inquiry into the Gohana incidents was first demanded by the Dalit leaders themselves. However, the government's decision to ask the CBI to inquire into the Panchkula incidents also has caught them on the wrong foot.
Mr Ravan said the failure of the Hooda government to announce the interim relief in one go had aggravated the situation. It first announced relief of Rs 5,000 per family, which was later increased to Rs 50,000 and finally to Rs 1 lakh.
He said the government should have also compensated the family of the murdered youth.

Reservation for dalits
www.bhagwanvalmiki.com, 3 Feb 2007 [cached]
Mr Darshan Rattan Ravan, Chief Organiser of the National Adi Dharam Samaj, alleged at a press conference here today that the benefits of reservation were only availed by members of the Ravi Dass community. The Scheduled Castes comprised 37 communities, including Balmikis, in Punjab. He said almost all members of the Balmiki community were still deprived of reservation benefits.
Giani Zail Singh during his tenure as Chief Minister of Punjab had fixed 12 per cent reservation for the Balmiki community, within the 25 per cent quota for SC/ST.
Petrol stations, gas agencies, ration depots and plots under various schemes had also been "captured" by members of the Ravi Dass community, he alleged.
He said by installing Ms Santosh Chaudhry, who was also from the Ravi Dass community, as Chairperson of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis, the Congress had hurt the sentiments of the Balmikis.
The samaj had decided to oppose Congress candidates in the forthcoming elections, he said.
He demanded the dissolution of committees relating to the Balmik Tirath and introduction of Balmiki tirath act on the pattern of the Sikh Gurdwara Act.
